HISTORY
The need to replace our 93-year-old Main Station in Berwyn, as well as building a permanent Substation in Tredyffrin Township, are issues that have been discussed with both Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships for decades.
In 2019 a joint ESOP (Emergency Services Operations Planning) group was created with Supervisors from Tredyffrin & Easttown Townships, Township staff, and the Fire Companies serving the T-E Community. Additionally, the Berwyn Fire Company Capital Planning Group has Supervisor Liasions from both Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships.
These groups have been meeting on a regular basis for the last few years and have made great progress on issues concerning Fire / EMS services to the community, including the capital needs of the Fire Companies that serve the community.
1894 - The Berwyn Fire Company was formally organized.
1906 - A horse drawn Waterous 350-gallon pumper was obtained.
1917 - First motorized equipment (1917 LaFrance Pumper) was purchased.
1951 - The Ladies Auxiliary raised money to purchase the company's first Ambulance.
2000 - Berwyn Fire Company receives its' license for Advanced Life Support Services.
10/2008 - Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships commissioned System Planning Corporation to perform a
comprehensive Fire Services Deployment Study. Of note, Page 51 includes consultant's
recommendation that the Main Station be replaced "in the very near future".
04/2013 - Substation meeting & discussion with Tredyffrin Township Sub-Committee Group. This was a
result of increased development in Tredyffrin Township, along with a new housing development
'Wayne Glen' being proposed.
03/2017 - New Building Presentation to group of Supervisors from Tredyffrin & Easttown Townships.
06/2018 - Opening of a temporary Fire/EMS substation at the PECO facility off Cassatt Road.
08/2019 - Memo to ESOP (Emergency Services Operations Planning) with Supervisors from Tredyffrin &
Easttown, along with Township staff, highlighting temporary substation goals for 2020.
08/2019 - Opening of a temporary EMS substation at Old Forge Crossing Condominiums.
11/2019 - Memo to ESOP group for Tredyffrin & Easttown Townships regarding NEW location for Tredyffrin
substation.
01/2020 - Opening of our current Fire / EMS substation at 1100 West Valley Road.
09/2020 - Current Capital Committee formed, including four Berwyn Fire Company representatives and
one supervisor from both Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships.
12/2020 - The BFC Capital Committee finalized a list of Assumptions off which recommendations will be
made.
01/2021 - The BFC Infrastructure Committee finalized a list "wants versus needs" for the new buildings
from which initial designs and budgets for the two buildings will be built.
02/2021 - The Township Liaisons requested a document to justify why a permanent substation is needed
versus staying in the temporary quarters.
10/2021 - A Joint Resolution passed by Easttown & Tredyffrin Townships pledges up to $4,500,000 in
township funding towards Phase I Construction Costs (up to 50% of costs).
10/2021 - The Berwyn Fire Company hired Lauren Coy as Director of Development to lead our Capital Campaign
